Why Schools Use Startingpoint
Go beyond names
on a list
Understand the person behind the pupil – what motivates them, how they learn best, and what matters most.
Strengthen the Year 6–7 transition
Support new starters from day one with meaningful information that informs induction, classroom practice, and pastoral care.
Save time, reduce risk, improve outcomes
Make it easier for form tutors, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to offer targeted support where it’s needed most.
Simple to use – for families and staff
The profile is completed online during the summer holidays. No training required, no setup headaches – just actionable insight from day one.
What’s Included in the Startingpoint Profile
- Personality and learning preferences
- Hobbies, interests, and aspirations
- Support needs and wellbeing indicators
- Reflections on the primary school journey
- Hopes and concerns about starting secondary school

How It Works
1. Account set up
A school account with safeguarded pupil profiles is created with one simple upload of names and email addresses
2. Pupils receive their Startingpoint email invite
Pupils, their parents and carers are invited to complete the profile over the summer, in their own time.
3. Access meaningful insights
Staff can access individual profiles before the start of term – ready to offer a more personalised welcome from day one.
A Profile That Grows With the Student
Startingpoint doesn’t end after the transition. The profile continues to grow as new experiences, achievements, and skills are added, which support future readiness and personal development.
This evolving record can:
- Track progress over time
- Build a portfolio of evidence for skills and strengths
- Connect with work experience and volunteering opportunities
- Support college and job applications with a credible, real-world profile
- The evidence-based profiles help with the EHCP annual review process and support ‘preparation for adulthood
Startingpoint helps prepare young people not just for secondary school – but for life beyond the classroom.
